Answer» Hope I'm in the right place and I'm a beginner and I mean a real beginner. So please be patient with me. I want to view a site, vitals.com which gives info and rates doctors. I can get on the site but can only get so far. When I inquired I was advised to make sure my browser soft ware was up-to-DATE and to install the latest version of Adobe Flash-plug ins. They gave me the site, abobe.com/shockwave, etc., etc. I was able to download but unable to open. The indication is: Firefox (my browser) must be closed before Adobe plug in can be installed. I don't know what this means so therefore I don't know how to do this. Could someone explain this to me in an easy to understand manner? Thank you. PS-Also don't know how to determine if browser software is up-to-date. Now you know inexperienced I am but feel vitals.com is a good site for me and I want to be able to use it.To close Firefox, click on "X" in right upper corner of Firefox:
To see, if Firefox is up to date, click Help, then Check for updatesIs there not a notification BAR under the Address Bar telling you to download plug-ins and what not?Where's the page(s) that require Flash? I VISITED the site and made an inquiry to get a list of Otolaryngologists within 15 miles. I SAW no page using Flash.
To verify that you have Flash installed, and what version, go to http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/ and click on Version test for Adobe Flash Player, part way down the page, under Top Issues. On vitals.com - I was trying to get to the page where people would COMMENT on their doctors. There is a line that says Patients Rating and Comments - view details or reviews on bottom left of page. When I click that - the next page is just a graph - not individual comments. I know you can read them as my niece is able to. In fact, the doctor I was looking up - a Dr. Karakashian in Sea Girt, NJ - had 64 comments - he's a skin doctor. I want to see what people have to say.
As mentioned when I emailed Vitals the told me to install flash plug in - I checked Adobe support as just advised and it is installed and firefox browser is up-to-date.
Of course when I shut down firefox - the computer goes back to the first screen where all programs are listed.
I do not see a notification bar - just the space where I type in the web site I want. But as mentioned in my original question Adobe was telling me that browser had to be closed before plug in could be installed. But when I checked today it is installed!! That's the part I didn't understand. As you can see this is not earth shattering and I thank everyone for trying to help. I must be missing something.
