Solve : Batch update help?

Answer»

My friend has a Dell running Windows Vista with Internet Explorer 7. Could get online (dial-up, yuck!) was able to view WEBPAGES but could not access any emails, but received IE cannot display this WEBPAGE. I ran Vista update and think this might have caused problems. Also tried to delete Norton Security program which came with ISP trial basis, but received error messages not being able to uninstall. Called ISP, WENT to Run>CMD prompt, etc. and after trying a command, was told that the batch file needed to be updated which would solve all her internet problems, etc. and should call computer manufacturer to get commands to enter but know I could do myself with help. Can anyone help me with this batch file update commands, etc.?88% chance Norton is wonking your connection because it was not removed properly...
DLoad and run the Norton Removal Tool from their site...
Re-boot and Post back with the results.

NOTE: Only install and run one antivirus program out of Broni's suggestions.

The rest of these can be added safely.Don't forget Microsoft's Windows Live One Care. Get the full strength of Microsoft behind your spyware scanner and anti-malware solution. They even allow you to manage all the PC's in your small home workgroup for one low fee. Most users should use this.

Admin edit: I don't mind the mention of OneCare, however please do not link to affiliate programs.Quote

I understand, you're Micro$oft Registered Partner, whatever it means, but there is no reason to promote really poor programs, like Windows Live One Care.
