Solve : Can not open one website?

Answer»

I am about to go nuts over this problem. I can not open one website. Everyone else who tries it on their computers can open it; I've opened it on a different COMPUTER. But, on mine all I get "the page cannot be displayed."

I am using Windows 98 2E, DSL (through Earthlink) and IE 6. Earthlink has had me try so many things, I can't even remember them all. I have no idea if it's the result of something I downloaded. I have run Spybot and Ad Aware and AVG VIRUS and Trend Micro Virus. I have no trouble with any other websites, just this one.

This is the address of the website: http://home.earthlink.net/~lvopr8r/loop/

Can someone please help?

I assume you cleared all IE6 temporary files, cookies?
Download, install and run this:  http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html

It's probably a corrupted registry entry or something obscure.
Thank you for the suggestion, but I downloaded and ran the CC Cleaner and I'm still getting the same thing.

Yes, I have cleared cookies and temp. files. I have downloaded IE 6 3 times. The first 2, I couldn't get the repair to work. The third time it worked, but I still couldn't access the web site.

I'm about ready to call an exorcist.

JudySince your ISP is Earthlink and the website is Earthlink, Earthlink is the problem.  If you still have a dialup account with another ISP, see if you can access the website.I no longer have dial-up, just DSL. I feel Earthlink is the problem too, but although they have tried their best (I was REALLY impressed with how much they tried), they couldn't solve the problem.

At one point, they suggested I check with Sprint local DSL, since that is really my provider (Earthlink just handles the account or something LIKE that). I called them and they told me it was a problem with my computer and I needed to contact my computer manufacturer. I am no expert on this, but fail to see how it could be my computer's fault.

I'm ready to just admit defeat. I am going to buy a new laptop in a month or so, maybe that will connect me to the site.

I appreciate all input though.
JudyI just had something similar happen to me.  One and only one url was extremely slow to load.  No problem with other installed OS's on same computer and 2 other computers on home network.  I tried everything, but no luck.  I had an image BACKUP that was a month old and after restoration, all was okay.  It was probably a registry setting that got corrupted.

Point being:  perform image backups regularly.

In your case, reinstall Windows.I finally figured out the problem. I had installed a new version of AVG antivirus, and was having some small problems. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, and now I can access the webpage.

I appreciate all your help though.

JudyThanks for the update.  I never would have thought AVG was the problem.  I used AVG v6 for a while, it never gave me any problems.

I recommend that you perform image backups, every week or two.  http://www.symantec.com/sabu/ghost/ghost_personal/
