Solve : cannot view certain websites?

Answer»

I am running a desktop, and laptop on my d link router. I am using a dsl connection. I cannot open certain websites on either computer for ex: www.usbank.com. If I connect my laptop to my neighbors wireless i can access all sites. Tried resetting the dsl modem, and router..no luck..any ideas? What Windows version? What browser?
www.usbank.com is a secure web site, so it must be something about your security settings.
Since you can access that site through your neighbour connection, most likely, there is some security setting on your router.
Try this.
Connect your computer STRAIGHT to your modem, bypassing router, and see if you can reach www.usbank.comQuote from: Broni on November 08, 2007, 10:13:44 PM

Sorry, im running xp pro..IE 7 on my laptop,IE 6 on desktop. I tried with just the dsl modem, still dosent WORK.

In IE7:

Tools ---> Internet Options ---> Advanced Tab.
Under security, select the FOLLOWING:

Use SSL 3.0
Use TLS 1.0

Does it work now? Or do you already have those checked? Also, try Firefox, and see what happens.Quote from: dairyman on November 09, 2007, 01:18:34 AM

Tried Firefox also...same results.I'm totally clueless. You can connect through your neighbour network, but not through your modem...hmmmmm
Another try...
Connect your computer straight to your modem, disconnect modem from power source, wait 30 sec, reconnect. Restart computer, and try again.Quote from: Broni on November 09, 2007, 04:56:43 PM

Yeah, I can use my laptop wireless on my neighbors connection. But when i try either of my computers on my connection..i can't view certain websites. Tried powering down the router and dsl modem. No luck with either. We, apparently eliminated your router, so the very last option, which I really tried to avoid, is bad modem. How old is it?
BTW...does your neighbour have same ISP, as yours?Quote from: Broni on November 10, 2007, 09:38:28 AM

THATS what i was thinking, my neighbor has cable modem, I have DSL. I'll try to call them on MondayIt looks even more like your modem problem, then.
