Solve : comp crashes? |
Answer» Right first of all the problem is that my comp will shut down after approx 10 - 15 mins of game play on games such as half life 2, counter strike source, battlefield 2, the monitor suddenly goes black then a msg of RGB no input comes up, then it goes to stand by, my comp seems to still be running, as in the lights are still on, but i cant do anything, i've had a few mates who know a bit about comps look at it n they can't figure it out, its not the graphics card over heating, and my system is powerfull enough to run the games. i recently noticed that when i load my comp up it is only reading 128mb of RAM, which is well lower than i should have and i think would explain why it crashes on games that need 256 mb of RAM to run as mentioned above as it will run Counter strike 1.6 with no problems. I've tried testing the memory card stips independently and they are both running at 64mb. I have been told that i may be ABLE to sort it by changing something in the BIOS but i'm not sure what. OK, you have a known RAM problem that needs to get resolved first. Did this computer ever work correctly? If so what has changed? Is the RAM seen correctly in the BIOS? Download and run memtest (free at www.memtest86.com) on each chip for an hour and then all together for an hour. What happens? Assuming the RAM tests OK (removing and reseating is of course part of this drill) move ahead. Is that a legal version of XP? SP2 and all updates? Despite your assurance about the heat, what happens if you TAKE the side panel off and blow a fan directly in there while gaming? I am very suspicious of the no-name Chinese PSU. Not a brand I would get, but we'llwork our way to that. Those numbers were on the PSU I take it and not ACTUALLY tested with a meter? Do the above and post back.how do i check if the RAM is correct in bios?, with this mem test which target dikette drive do i choose? really i know very little about comps, so be gentlesorry also i've tested it with a house fan and these are the tested numbers for psu temps:- CPU - 32 Cels/92 far SYS - 22/72 Aux - 41/106 HDO - 30/86 Voltage VcoreA 1.42v VcoreB 1.03v +3.3V 3.50v +5VSB 0.00v +VBAT 0.00v Fans CPU Fan - 3131 RPM SYS Fan - 0 RPM AUX Fan - 0 RPM for this i used sensorview http://www.stvsoft.com/download.php?id=122 the target diskette would be A, sorry brain blockageAnd I am more worried about the temp on the graphics card than ANYWHERE else. You need to turn the house fan on HIGH and blow it in there and start to game AFTER the RAM problem is sorted out. Again, try the above - all of it. |
