Solve : computer is slow and freezes? |
Answer» I know this is a topic that has been brought up before. What my question is though is do I need to clean my registry? When Im online my computer starts to act very slow like after only visting only one or two sites. I then need to log off and log back in only to have to do it again in a little while. I recieved a pop up saying my registry needs to be clean. Well I did the scan and it came up with 400 problems, but WANTED 29.99 to fix them. Is this a scam or something I need to do and if I do are there any free ones out there? I have a dial up connection, windows xp, I run scans from norton internet security and ad-adware like twice a day or I really have the problems. A big thank you in advance for any help anyone can give me. Virus scanners ...II recieved a pop up saying my registry needs to be clean. Boot to Safe Mode and run your scans. Thanks Computer_Commando...so your saying I shouldnt have clicked on it. Thanks again for the REPLY.ok how do I boot to safe mode ? Who knew I needed so much help .Press F8 will booting.Running scans is OK but you really need to stop the viruses & spyware before they get onto your computer. Are you using any real time protection? What is considered real time protection? I thought thats why I had Norton Internet Security. Is there something else I should have? Thanks again for the reply. If you ever see anything on the internet, pop-ups etc. that say something like "Speed up your computer", "Remove unwanted programs", etc. DO NOT CLICK ON IT! MOney aside, you are not likely to get ANYTHING good from this. If you didn't go searching for it, don't download it!!!!! (And if you did go searching for it, make sure it was recommended by someone you trust, like Raptor!)OK thanks for the advice GX1_Man. So far Ive downloaded Crap Cleaner and that found alot of stuff to remove. Ive also downloaded Spyware Blaster but not quite sure I understand what thats doing for me yet. Maybe you should use things that are: 1) free 2) widely used 3) safe 4) highly recommended such as Ad Aware or Spybot. Or better yet Ad Aware AND Spybot!I already have ad-adware and spybot and run scans daily. Thanks though! But do you run Spybot in advanced mode? Do you run the Spybot Teatimer? Have you installed the Spybot hosts file? Have you activated the Spybot IE tweaks? Spybot is more than just a scanner. Yikes! No I thought that was the only thing you could do with Spybot was do the scans. Thanks for pointing that out Fed and I will try to figure out how to do all the things you mentioned. :-/ Thanks again. |
