Answer» It really really does. Few pics to show what i mean....
What settings did you play the game at?
I should try the game myself once I have a new CPU installed.Athlon XP 1900+ 768mb PC2100 Ram Geforce4 TI4200 - 128mb Audigy 2 Platinum
---------------------------------------
Doom3 is running at 800x600 with medium settings and everything on (besides self shadowing) but no high quality special effects. It runs at about 30fps apart from a few drops when there is lots going on. Its definatly worth a look. its probably one of the best games i have ever played to date.It is beautiful to SEE and hear. The immersion is so good I've jumped a few TIMES when something pops out at me.
As pretty as it is, I don't think it has much re-playability. It is too linear. Far Cry was so open it was easy to forget what the objective was while in D3 you have no choices on what to do or where to go.Farcry had a horrible ending. It made me very frustrated.
If Doom 3 is anything like Doom 1 and 2 I will still be playing it over 4 years.agreed, farcrys ending sucked. it would have been a fantastic game if it was all about fighting mercs but they had to spoil it with some crappy monsters.
-------------------------------------------------- I have gotten pretty far in doom3 now. i have just done Biological research which is amazing. there are lots of story elements where you learn more about what went on on mars prior to the disaster. some of the audio logs are down right chilling and the levels flow very well so you are never left looking for what to do for long.
One of my favourite bits is when you are walking down a corridor then you hear a voice saying "hello...is someone there?" then you investigate and just as you are getting close he goes "oh GOD no! oh god! argggggggggg!!" and you turn the cornter to see his dismembered BODY and an imp jumps in your face. the voice acting is superb.
[Added] quick screenie from bio research..
If you enjoy that kind of horror, you should try The Suffering. Brilliant game.
I would show you a lot of screenshots I made, but I cannot access my harddisk at this moment..hmm Playstation 2 port isn't it? i have never been too fond of those. This is a very good port. There are many good ports out there.
At first, I did not even notice it was a Playstation game until someone notified me of that fact.I might check it out. GTA:VC was the only PS2 port that i have liked but the suffering looks pretty violent and cool.
another d3 screenie while im at it...
I am going to give Doom 3 a shot myself after I type this message, I hope I can come up with some fancy screenshots. The game looks very promising. Bit late, I know, too caught up in playing, here are some screenshots from my game of Doom 3:
TAKEN at 1024x768, 4AA, everything set to 'On' except for Vsync and Shadows (Shadows slow it down immensely)
The amount of detail is amazing
Surprise, you're on candid camera..
I live... Again
You cant turn of the shadows! They are probably the coolest feature of the engine!I turned on Shadows, not much difference. Some objects now have a shadow, such as railings but the game was dark enough to miss them. Entities also have a shadow now. Game runs a tad less smooth, guess it musta been the big space ship at the start when I first tested it..
