Solve : Downloading to disk?

Answer» HEY guys and girls,

I'm trying to ADJUST my settings so that downloads from the internet do direct to external disk rather than the current default setting, anyone know how to change it so that I decide where my downloads go?!

MattAre you using a download manager or just the Microsoft stuff? Thanks for replying,

I'm using the MS IE 6 on a computer at work running XP. This system is configured such that you cannot download software or freeware direct on to the computer in order to prevent virus etc messing up the system. When downloading a brochure for a car for example, the computer obviously recognises that this is not an .exe type file and will happily save it to a place of my choosing. When trying to download a piece of software, CopyPod in this case, it is blocked by the firewall on the server.

However, there must be a way of altering the download path so that it goes straight to a memory stick/external drive, thereby causing no risk to the system.

Any ideas?Probably you should not be doing this at work. That's why they have these restrictions. You may be downloading a brochure for a new job.  Thanks for the lecture Dad! Quote

Some employers (such as mine) have a very strict and enforceable policy on using a work computer for things other than work related activities. They enforce it with programs to make sure it is not happening. Just FYI.

Your EMPLOYER no doubt has rules as well. Perhaps you signed an agreement when you started your employment or acknowledged these which you should feel obliged to uphold. Just part of being a good employee and a good citizen.  I will sleep easy in my bed now knowing that there are people like you who feel that they have to offer moral guidance on these things.

I know you are not supposed to do it, that's why i asked for HELP to get around it. FYI.Plums.......

Well , Plums, with all due respect .......you should direct your query to the person or persons who set up the security on THEIR system. I'm absolutely certain that once you present your case to them as to why you should be allowed to download whatever you want ......They will probably take immediate action.
