Solve : Dumb Down/ Slow Down AI's in Alien Arena FPS?

Answer»

So I installed Alien Arena FPS to try it out. Got my *censored* handed to me by the AI's selected the easiest mode, and still getting my *censored* handed to me in the arena death match. From being someone who used to own the arena's of Unreal Tournament 99 FPS deathmatches, the easy mode on UT99 was more forgiving when I started playing that many years ago with AI's.

Anyone have experience with this game Alien Arena with making modifications to the AI's beyond that of just selecting easy mode from the game menu? Maybe its hard coded and cant be changed. I expected easy mode to be slower paced to get use to the game some and learn the maps and spawn locations of items. The aliens are filling me full of holes quickly...lol

Maybe I just need to die a lot and then eventually easy mode will be easy. Great Free game for what it is. Just figured I'd mention this here in case anyone else has had experience with it, and issues with easy mode being more like normal mode.Though it doesn't answer your question (I had much of the same problem, I call shenanigans! and/or cheaty AI of some sort) Another game you might want to check out (if you hadn't already) of a similar vein is Nexuiz. Thanks for confirming its not just me with this game, and suggesting Nexuiz. Going to give that a try. And I totally agree that the AI seemed "Cheaty", it always knows where you are. I parked myself with an ADVANTAGE with back to WALL in a corner so that any AI's that walked past me, I'd be able to snipe off, and the second they enter the same area they never just walk by, its like they can see (detect) in 360 degrees or thru walls and can instantly come face to face with them blasting you almost like they are using "Pac-Man Ghost attraction" to your location. Running around leads to even lesser advantage to this game as for now in addition to the AI's being cheaty, you now expose yourself 360 degrees + from be shot at from above or below, and its easier for a human to detect movement of other moving objects in dim lighting in the game when you yourself are stationary, so the minute you see a SHADOW moving you can blast at it.

It would be interesting if Alien Arena is intended to be played as always stay on the move and shoot anything that moves, so that "maybe you can come around a corner and shoot at an AI faster than the AI can spin around and take a shot at you".... Just seems wrong in a game that should allow for all TYPES of play including hiding and sniping from advantage locations on the playing map.Just sounds like BAD AI programming. Making a good AI for bots like this isn't as easy as it would seem.
