Solve : Error message when I try and close IE?

Answer»

I am helping a family member try and solve a computer problem. They have Internet Explorer 6.0 and Windows XP. Currently just using dial up with NetZero, cheap version at $9.99 a month..uggg!!......When they bring up Internet Explorer, after browsing and sometimes even before quiting, it brings up a " Internet Exlporer has encountered a problem and needs to close". The options are " don't send, send, or debug". NONE of them work and when clicked on, just bring a another error frame, which we have to reboot to even get to go away. Is there a setting that might be WRONG??
HELP!!!Update windows, if that doesn't fix it then run the scans.

ONE thing I noticed when I went back and check their system is that when they connect to NetZero, it automatically COMES on with Internet Explorer. Is there a way I can check what he has at startup?? and if that might be a problem?rejoicing1.... Quote

Sure ..... open the browser , then click Tools /
Internet Options ...... General Tab ...... Home page ......it's probably set at msn.com ( You can change that to whatever you wish ).... Just change it and then click APPLY and OK

Has it alway behaved in this fashion or is it something that has just started .

MY brother in law got this from his son, used. Don't think it was doing it before. When he dials up Netzero, it automatically brings up IE. If I MINIMIZE that and go to the desktop icon, it brings up the home page I set up for them to start. That is when it shuts down. Maybe it is that setting that is causing the problem??
Thanks all for your support.

I think I'd start again with Windows Internet Connection Wizard.I think I'd start again with Windows Internet Connection Wizard.

You would re-install windows? or ? What is the Internet Connection Wizard? :-/
Start>Programs>Accessories>Communications>Internet Connection Wizard.
It will setup a new dialer for you.
You will need to know the dial in number, your username & password.Start>Programs>Accessories>Communications>Internet Connection Wizard.

Thank you......I will try that.
Let us know how you go with it. I will certainly let you know.  My brother in law is out of town right now so until Saturday I won't be able to try it. I am retired and have just found it exciting to learn all I can about computer.
