Answer» Choose your favorite linux distributionWhat is the point of "I don't use Linux"?
8-)fffreakUse the right DISTRO for the JOB. Eg:
Ubuntu for most desktop purposes. VectorLinux for older/slower harder. CentOS/TinySofa for servers.I use Windows for the most part because i play GAMES. But Kubuntu is my favourite distro.I started using SuSe because that's what my employer rebadges as Java Desktop Server.
But now they've partnered with Intel, I'll probably go back to using Solaris x86. Especially as you can run linux zones with the latest Solaris 11. (I'm currently experimenting with build 56 beta version of Solaris 11) I am just learning linux myself. just general stuff. I used OpenSuse 10.1 and I just loved it. but Ubuntu took over my vote just coz' of apt-get First visit here...just downloaded the Zenwalk GNU this morning (live CD version) to try on my antique here. Works great with only 450Mghz processor & 160 Mgb ram. Its a 400+ mb download but with lots of features & the ability to tinker right on the disk. Picked up all my hardware with no problems, & boots in a couple mins. on mine. Ive got copies of the ubantu that were sent to me but my system is too slow for it. Comes with firefox but you can program it to use any browser you choose it says. Puppy 2.14 because it's light, very fast and can load entirely in RAM. Can give a retired Windows machine new life. Easiest wireless configuration that I've done. (v2.14BETA)
For the big, plush variety I like SuSE 10.0 and Kubunto 6.06 LTS I VOTED for Puppy because I think ramdrive is the future and it's fun to see how fast it is compared to spinning disk technology.By the way, I found this neat little distro called 'feather' linux. It's a lot like DSL or Puppy, but, in a way, better.
