Answer» My computer has been running a bit slow lately after using Firefox. Firstly I ran scans with AVIRA, MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware (after running CCLEANER). All were clean with no problems. But when I checked Task Manager I saw that after Using Firefox it continued to use a lot of the CPU (almost 100%) and the Performance tag went from very little to 100%. To stop this it meant restarting my computer. This seems to have started after Firefox's latest update. I have tried a cold reboot. (Shut down. UNPLUGGED including wired Internet connection everything and went out for a while. On return started ) Same result I have posted here rather than the Virus forum as I think the problem is Firefox? If incorrect please tell me and I will post there with logs. WIN XP Pro Version 2002. SP3 Intel Pentium 111 512 Mb RAM Firefox 3.5 AVIRA Anti Virus COMODO Firewall Win Patrol Spyware Blaster
If I have done it right there should be screen shots of my Task Manager below. Thanks for any help.
[ATTACHMENT deleted by admin]Meant to post this one as well!
[attachment deleted by admin]Just to clarify. Are you SAYING Firefox is always running even after a restart, or does it only happen after you've used Firefox? When I restart Firefox is not running, but after I use it and close it it continues to run. No sign of it on the screen, but it is in the Task Manager as posted. It stays shown running in the Task Manager until I restart again.First screenshot indicates Avira using 40% of CPU cycles, which is little bit suspicious. Close Firefox (make sure, you kill firefox.exe process in Task Manager). Go Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox, click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode). Same, high CPU USAGE?It seems you're not the only one. http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?locale=ca&comments_parentId=384318&forumId=1
Several of the users claim Comodo SafeSurf is the cause of the problem and I can see you have Comodo installed. Thanks for the replies. I tried closing Safe Surf, no difference. Also tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode. After closing it checked the task manager, same result.See, if same thing happens in Safe Mode with Networking.COMODO just did an update. After that I restarted and was going to restart again in Safe Mode with Networking, but now all seems well! So maybe the problem was COMODO? Also noticed that on restarting there is now no sign of Safe Surf? Thank you for the help. If the problem comes back I will post again. (Hopefully not!)I'm glad, things are good
