Solve : Frustrating Redirection Virus!?

Answer»

Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone could help. I got hit with a nasty virus earlier in the year but was able to PULL almost all of it off my system (manually) over the summer. Unfortunately, one component has remained to torment me: Anytime I use Firefox for a search, whether it's Yahoo or GOOGLE, I get a redirection to some crap site, usually gambling/porn/singles finders/whatever. I've been ramming my head against a wall trying to get rid of this bugger. Plus, my computer is running slower and slower as it gets bogged down with more malware and spyware. I have Win XP and am running two virus protection software programs: AVG free and Avast. I've cleaned by system repeatedly with them, but it never gets this monster out. I'm at my wit's end. And, btw, I'm really paranoid about downloading I.E. I'd rather just clean up Firefox and whatever is causing this, then to download an even wormier browser.

I saw on this forum that it was suggested that a person with a similar problem download HijackThis, which I did. I ran it and now have a log. I was hoping someone might analyze it for me, or suggest something else to try.

Anything would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

I used the self-help tool to analyze the log. I PATCHED a few holes in my system and managed to delete two suspect exe. files. I really thought I had found an answer.

Then I did a random search via Yahoo and wound up hijacked again.

Is it possible I have something so deep in my system that even HijackThis can't find it?Yes.

HJT is only 1 tool we use as you would have seen on the link i posted...
These malware writers are getting so INSIDIOUS that no 1 app will do it all.
I suggest posting ALL the logs in that section...You need to READ the entire post that Patio gave you the link to. Then post all requested logs so that a specialist can have a look and advise you further.

Just using the self help tool won't completely fix your problem.Download Commodo firewall with antivirus (freeware) for block the auto redirectional site

and

Download ESET Nod32 trial version and update the virus database and scan your disk.

It will clear. Quote from: gopinath on November 17, 2009, 05:08:15 AM

No it Won't. Do not follow these instructions. Listen to people when they give you help:
