Solve : Game freezes on brand new computer regardless of OS?

Answer»

Hello,

I have a brand new computer which is much capable of doing what I ask for. Unfortunately, it kept freezing very early in games. I tried BF3, shogun 2, and dead island. The outcome is the same. At first I thought it might be because I was using a win8, and it had some compatibility problems. Then I installed win7 ultimate after deleting everything on C:, applied all updates for windows and video card drivers, then tried dead island again. You know what, it crashed on character selection screen! Then it also crashed in the end of my first battle on shogun 2. What I mean by crashed is that it is totally frozen and I can't even do ctrl-alt-del. It leaves the only choice to me as reset... So I guess it is not because of the OS, so I would definitely appreciate if you can help me with this. Here is my build;

G.SKILL Ripjaws 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) DIMM (RAM)

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Cooler 120mm (CPU Cooler)

AMD BullDozer Eight Core FX-8350 4.0GHz AM3+ Processor (CPU)

LG GH24NS95 24X SATA Internal SATA DVD Writer

Sapphire HD7870 XT 2G GDDR5 PCI-E Dual Fan Video Card (Graphics Card)

Cooler Master K380 Mid Tower Gaming Chassis

21.5" Samsung LED Monitor (LED)

FSP Aurum 600, 600W ATX PSU, Active PFC, Black

Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 Motherboard, Socket AM3+, AMD 970, 4xDDR3, 2xPCIe-16, 2xPCIe-1, Firewire, RAID, ATX

Any help you can provide is very much appreciated.

Thank you.Have you done any checks on your system apart from the games, and reinstalling (which was a good idea to START with)?
If not, try the Heaven Valley benchmark and Furmark to stress test your graphics card, LinX or Prime95 to stress your CPU, and MEMTEST86+ (which is a bootable ISO, burn it to a disk and boot from it) to test your RAM.
It's likely to be one of those that's at fault here and those tests should help show which.Wow, you really did your diag to find your issue. I get too frustrated to do that much work. before you reloaded the OS, I would have called someone for help. I can only take so much.
Is the computer still under warranty?
In some places there is a Consumer Electronic Warranty law that requires sellers to provide repair or replacement for items that do not perform as expected.
One would think that a computer that can not play popular games must have a defect.
This is old, but there may be a law in your province or state.

Legislators in New Jersey have proposed a measure that would extend traditional “lemon law” protections to customers purchasing consumer electronics. A-3978, also KNOWN as the Consumer Electronics Warranty Lemon Law, unanimously passed an Assembly committee last week. The idea behind the legislation, its sponsors said in a statement to PoliticsNJ.com, is that because some consumers spend thousands of dollars per year on electronics, they deserve the same sort of protections that car owners do.
It is possible that the game would have had issues in Win 8, but you should have gotten errors of some sort.

Since it's also not working on Win 7 Ult, I'd say it's about 95% likely that it's a hardware issue.

Since the computer is quite new - you can just take it back. If not, then I'd just do all the test that Calum recommended and replace anything that generates issues.
