Answer» I have an Intel Pentium 166MHz w/MMX computer with 64 MB RAM and I use Windows 98. While attempting to renew my Norton Antivirus subscription online, the following message appeared: "Your browser is not supported because it is not considered secure ENOUGH to conduct an online transaction. Please upgrade your browser and then begin your session again." Can anyone tell me how to upgrade my Internet Explorer browser? I went through this last year and wonder if my Windows 98 can take another IE upgrade. Thank you.
jandal Win98 supports IE 6:

If that doesn't work, you may be SOL -- Microsoft, in all its wisdom, no longer supports Win98 and below. And if you are considering a replacement for the Norton beast Avast and AVG are both very good and free...jandal, what version of IE do you have installed? If IE 6, you can't go any higher with Win 98. If you open IE, click on Help, About Internet Explorer, what version is shown, and what Cipher Strength?
Can you logon to websites using secure mode (https, not http), such as banking? If you go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, and scroll down to Security, are boxes for "Use SSL 2.0" and "Use SSL 3.0" checked? Can you find more detailed info on SYMANTEC's site about the browser requirements?
And, as PATIO mentioned, now would be a good time to switch to another anti-virus program. Especially if you use Internet explorer. If you can't upgrade IE, here are a few good alternatives:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ Firefox 2.0.3. Windows 98 is the MINIMUM OS for this one.
http://www.opera.com/support/search/view/386/ Opera. Windows 95 or higher.
http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/download/sysreq.jsp Netscape. Requires Win98 SE. If you don't have SE this won't run. Thanks to everyone who offered such terrific advice. I am now using Firefox and have dumped Norton Antivirus for AVG. My Windows 98 never ran so smoothly! Once again, thanks!
jandal Glad the suggestions offered worked out for you...seeya around.
