Answer» Hi, I have a problem with my other PC. It wont open webpages.
in the progress bar at the bottom left, when i try to open a page it says 'resolving host.'
then it just says...
'This web page is not available.
the web page at null might be temporarily down or it may have moved PERMANENTLY to a new web address.'
I tried running a repair on my connection and it came back with.. 'Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server (85.255.112.133).'
can anyone help me?i just found an error code, i hope it helps someone help me
Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): The server could not be found. Is this your own computer or a work one?
Can you access the run command from your START bar by doing the commands below
start > run > then type the word "cmd" and hit enter
If the little black box comes up (the command prompt) type
"ping 85.255.112.133" if this comes back "destination host unreachable" you may have a DNS problem. If it's at your work it may just be the server is down.
If you could follow the instruction below, hopefully this will help
Only do this if you have authority to do so please
control panel > Network Connections > right click on your network connection and click properties > left click once on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" to highlight this option and click on the properties box just below and to the right.
The box that comes up will have an option down at the bottom "Use the following DNS server addresses". If you click on that option to add the little dot in the radio button it will let you put an address in the box. If you put in the "85.255.112.133" number then click okay, this will shut that box down. Click okay on the box that you’re left with on screen. Try to open your browser now and this should hopefully sort the problem.
Oh one more thing.... the 85.255.112.133 is an IP address. If you ever have a problem like this again, just say it's a DNS ISSUE and DO NOT ever give out an IP address on a public forum. This is the type of number that a hacker could use to gain access to a computer. Not trying to SCARE you off, just letting you know.
I hope this helps.... Let me know how you go
Rgds, MM Moe moe information about DNS question, here is a good place to start: http://www.opendns.com/
Some malware is out there messing up the Internet this week. You may get better connections by changing to static DNS. thanks for the replies, I will keep them in mind, however, I have just turned my computer on today, and everything SEEMS fine
I dunno why, i feel a bit foolish now
oh well, I will save this incase it happens again though
