That's not helpful.

Exactly what happens when you try to open IE?Quote from: Allan on January 20, 2012, 02:31:10 PM
That's not helpful.

Yes it is.
Nothing happens when I click on it. The hour GLASS shows, then nothing.Okay. I suggest you uninstall it for the moment.

What OS are you running and what is the version of IE that you replaced?I'm running Windows XP with SP3I replaced IE6Uninstall IE8. Then try upgrading to IE7 if you like as a first step. Let's see if that works. Why don't you RECOMMEND resetting IE to default through Internet Options? Why uninstall? Hey Allan, Installed IE7 without a problem. Then tried to install IE8 and after installing and reboot had this dialog box in the upper left corner of my desktop that read: Setting up personalized settings for Browser Customization. Screen was frozen and waited over an hour in hope that it was being done. Nothing happened and had to reboot in Safe Mode in order to delete IE8.
Okay, so if I understand correctly you now have IE7 installed and working properly, is that correct? If so, let's do this:

1) Download the standalone IE8 installer (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=43)

2) Reboot. As soon as you see the blue WELCOME screen, hold down the LEFT CTRL key on the keyboard. Continue to hold it down until Windows finishes LOADING and the cursor changes from an hourglass to an arrow (this may take a minute or two). This will prevent any programs from loading and give you a semi-clean boot. If your Anti Virus application did load, disable it temporarily (or shut it down).

3) Go to where you saved the IE8 download, right-click on it and choose "run as administrator". Let IE8 install and when it's FINISHED reboot. Let's see if that works for you.Allan,
My wife doesn't care if she has IE8, since she uses firefox and wants me to leave her computer alone. When she is not around I will try your suggestions. Thanks for the help.

lol - okay, I understand. BTW - I prefer Firefox myself.
