Solve : IE Address bar problem? |
Answer» I have 2 lap top computers running xp home, I use ie 6 on both recently I have been having a problem with both computers when using Ie, when I type an address in the address bar and hit ENTER or go, it just sets there for about 3 to 5 min. then goes to the required site, doesn't matter what site I type in, I have run several virus scans on both computers have reset to original settings have tried reloading Ie 6 from Microsoft, have run several spyware programs, have deleted all or any extra search bars "msn, yahoo ect.". If I click a link INSIDE a page it goes right away like it's supposed to, if I use a search bar off say MSN.com it goes right away. What the heck is wrong? Reset the home page as suggested no help, you'll have to help me out, how do I check for Highjackers, It never goes were it shouldn't nor does it bring up ads, or other pages not requested. Try more than one spyware scanner. Anti spy/malware Microsoft Antispyware -- Anti spyware scanner. Windows XP Home and Professional only. Spybot Search & Destroy -- Anti spyware scanner Adaware SE Personal -- Anti spyware scanner Quote IE>Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Reset Web Settings Did you?Yes Fed I did as you suggested no help, I am in the process of running the spyware suggested, have run spybot previously, just ran microsoftspyware prog, so far no spyware.Download & run Hijackthis then post the saved logfile at the same address. http://www.hijackthis.de/index.php?langselect=englishOk have completed all suggestions; Adware picked up 1 tracking cookie, removed it. All other spyware progs found nothing. Hijackthis returned one suspect file; O2 - BHO: ST - {9394EDE7-C8B5-483E-8773-474BF36AF6E4} - C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\ST\01.03.0000.1005\en-xu\stmain.dll Nasty Entries found in this registry zone are potentially nasty. This application ([9394EDE7-C8B5-483E-8773-474BF36AF6E4] - Result: 9394EDE7-C8B5-483E-8773-474BF36AF6E4) has been checked. Hit rate: 99 % Must be fixed! Not sure what to do with this, Delete it? closed BROWSER reopened nothing changed yet.Run another Hijackthis scan, tick it & hit the fixit button.I tell ya this thing is tough, I've been working on it myself for about 2 weeks now, I can say that I found out something else fooling around here tonight, if I click on the addresss bar drop down it spends a ton of time doing something. I have already cleared the history of this. Fixed file mentioned above ran another scan and anylized again it was gone, got rid of a couple others I wasn't 100% sure about just in case closed browser tried again, no luck..... You may have to reboot to make those changes have an effect. You could also download & run ccleaner. http://www.ccleaner.comYou guy's have a lot of good Ideas and suggestions, after completing every one of them, I'm affraid we haven't changed much. We have however fixed the drop down arrow on the address bar it now drops down right away as it should the address bar phenomenon however is still lagging. I timed the thing from the time I put in the url (a known url "yahoo.com") it took almost exactly 5 min before it started to go to the url. All this good information is very appreciated, what else you got.Open a dos prompt and ping yahoo.com Quote C:\WINNT\system32>ping yahoo.com |
