Solve : IE8 Notification Bar Not Functioning?

Answer»

Installed `Miro" Internet TV, got Security Center Firewall notification, opted for ask me later.
Uninstalled `Miro' and no longer have notification bar. Did not change any SETTINGS myself. Assume this was a service that was turned off but which one specifically? Not that I really
miss it, just concerned something may have been compromised.

Thanks for any help.Hi there,

Is there still a problem with this one?

Rgds,
MMThanks for the reponse MM, and yes still not functioning for downloads but works properly for addon, activeX and popup blocking notification. Rechecked IE seccurity settings and have prompt for downloads enabled.
Turned off SmartScreen Filter temporarily but still no change. Thoght maybe latest Security updates for IE 8 might reset something but no. Scanned with MSE, MSRT, MBAM, SAS, IOBIT, HitmanPro, DrWeb Cureit and EmiSoft. Used Revo uninstaller, CCleaner and RootRevealer as well. Can't think it's a malware problem.
Did you have asuggestion?
rhabWhat are you running just now... xp, vista, 7...

Try the following below for me please.

right click on taskbar > task manager > highlight any program and click e, find explorer.exe and then click end process but keep task manager open

On the menu bar in task manager click file > new task (run) and type explorer.exe and see what happens and let me know please.

If you want to do that just now, I'll keep an eye here and you can let me know how it goes. If you are going to do it later can you let me know so that I'm not sitting for ages thinking you're going to get back to me LOL!!!

Rgds,
MMJust to say that when you end the process of explorer.exe the taskbar will vanish completely but don't worry it will start up again when you restart the explorer.exe in task manager.

MMThe task bar disappeared and reappeared as you suggested. Did happen tonote I have two iexplore.exe
running.end the process on the one with the least memory usage.Did that, lost both entries, added again and two entries appeared, both of which show equal usage.
Downloaded some files today, still no prompt through notification bar.um... internet explorer is iexplore.exe, windows explorer is explorer.exe.

This I know, is there a point to be made? I'm all ears. Any elaboration is welcome.Quote from: rhabdomantist on June 13, 2010, 01:26:54 PM

well, your problem is with Internet Explorer, is it not? since explorer.exe is not related to internet explorer I do not see how messing about with it's processes could solve the issue. You could probably do something with iexplore.exe, but my personal recommendation would be to run IE in safe mode (instructions here.Thaks BC Programmer, was wondering myself was Taskbar function or Windows Explorer would have to do
with my question but not professing to know everything and open to suggestions for something I have not been able to figure out myself, I thought ending and restarting explorer.exe relatively BENIGN and was waiting for a response with the rational behind it from MM. If I were to run without add-ons(I usually right click on IE icon and select from small popup menu)would I then lose the notification/information bar for popups and ActiveX controls? Also, would reinstalling Windows Downloader rectify my problem? As I stated in my original post, I don't really miss this and always check the warnings in the download box anyway. Perhaps because I
download a fair bit IE has thrown in the towel and is tired of reminding me. Sometimes a person may have to concede that the MACHINE knows more about me than I do about it; much like the first car I ever owned. Any further suggestions would be appreciated unless you feel it's time to close this one out. I took note in other posts in this forum that perhaps responding to older unanswered questions may not be looked UPON favorably.Hello I'm back with the problem solved,
Should have thought before to check other user's settings for comparisom. Changed the following,
-Unchecked "Enable Integrated Windows Authentication"- Internet Options>ADVANCED>Security(#10)
-Disable "Automatic Prompting for File Downloads"- Internet Options>Security>Custom Levels>Downloads
Still seems strange that disabling prompting actually enables it and not sure if the first change made a difference as I have never reset that on my own until now.
So kudos to those who assisted me.
