Answer» IE-8...windows 7
I don't KNOW if this is a problem, or something i am not doing right. On my windows 7 machine , when i close the browser and check i have no pages left open i will then shut it down..
Turning it back on however , i will sometimes get the message " your last browsing session ended unexpectantly go to home page or carry on from where you left of" or something like that..
the problem is , i am sure no pages where left open at the time.... Is this a known problem or is it just me.Known problem, it's Microsoft bug due to the way IE8 works on Win7...
You can just ignore it (it will keep coming back from time to time)
or to attempt a fix.
Try this easy FIX (just disabling it): IE8 - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - Browsing - uncheck the Crash Recovery feature.
or (RECOVER from it)
Reset Internet Explorer. Note: This will DELETE your Browser History
Open Internet Explorer Click on Tools Click on Internet Options Click on Advanced Click on Reset Reboot the computer
or (more advance fix to stop it completely):
I found by going to the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Active (with IExplorer NOT running) and deleting any hashed keys found, will fix the problem. Backup by exporting the key first before deleting, just in case.
Microsoft knows about this problem, has thousand of people ask about the issue, yet they give no solution to actually fixing the problem, lol.
I use to have this issue too with my Windows 7 (64 bit) using IE8.Quote from: Azzaboi on April 16, 2010, 03:23:44 AM

Great, i like to try the advanced fix, i have DONE quite a few tweaks in the registry before and i know how to back it up. But the term " hashed keys " i have not heard before, can you give me an example of a hashed key....unless its just a hash in front of the key.... When IE8 crashes or thinks it has crashed it creates hash keys under your registry.
Registry Location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Active
There would be one or more that have the format like: {XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXX}
They will have a DWORD value of either 0 or 1 to trigger.
You can delete these hash values if it's messed up and next time it will recreate it (hopefully correctly). Most have found this will resolve the issue.
If it however still continues, you might want to repeat the process as well as... Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery Set the value in NoReopenLastSession = 1
If the key doesn't exist, you create it first. It's a DWORD-value. This will however disable the feature completely rather than attempt to fix. As a Firefox user, that sounds like a lot of TROUBLE for nothing.Thankyou Azzaboi most helpful
I will try that out, and hopfully it should work......
