My internet FAVORITES stopped working. One day they worked and then they stopped. I can still see the label for each favorite but the icon has CHANGED to a generic icon. When I click on a favorite, nothing happens. I am using Internet Explorer 7 with windows XP.Your favorites are in a folder - probably the folder is something like this....
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Favorites
I think you should go to this folder and examine the properties of the shortcuts in that folder and see if there is anything suspect about it. Do an experiment where you copy the target from the properties and paste it directly into the address bar of your BROWSER. Does it work under those circumstances?
Another experiment is to install the Firefox browser and import your favorites to Firefox (Firefox calls them bookmarks, but its the same thing) and see if they work.Thanks for the help. I did install Firefox and eventhough it did not pull over my favorites, only the folder, I am now able to use bookmarks. I have used Firefox a little and am getting used to the differences. Also, as of right now it appears that Firefox loads faster than Internet Explorer. This is a plus.

Ensure Internet Explorer is your default browser. Steps: Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs> Set program access and DEFAULTS -> Set Internet Explorer as the default browser. Then you should try reinstalling or reenabling add-ons.
