Solve : Is it wise to upgrade from vista to windows 8 for gaming purposes?

Answer»

Hellow guys i have been running windows vista for a while now never had virus problems or any other problems besides sometimes getting 40 fps on games like BF3 and FC3 with everything maxed, so my Question is, is it worth upgrading to windows 8 for $40 dollars now ? or would i be better off going for windows 7 i only use my computer to play games like WoW - FC3 - SWTOR - GW2 - BF3 - Diablo3 - Starcraft 2, so yea i love games. thank you again guys in advance Neither of them is likely to result in an appreciable PERFORMANCE gain.thank you BC_Programmer, do u THINK it will be a good upgrade even if performance is not affected to take advantage of the $40 special ? If you want to upgrade to something, then Windows 8 seems like a reasonable choice; It's cheaper, and it's likely the direction Many Operating Systems will be moving in the future, interface-wise, particularly as touch-screen monitors slowly BECOME more prevalent.

EDIT: you might want to check to see if there are Windows 8 drivers available for your system before doing so. Not having win8 drivers isn't a deal-breaker since you can install win7 or even win Vista drivers if you need to, but it's good to know.alright ill do that thank you again for ur time :-)Not a Vista to 8 upgrade, but a 7 64-bit to 8 upgrade...

Just wanted to mention that my youngest brother upgraded to 8 and claims that its more EFFICIENT than 7, and he claims that he is getting better FPS in games. He is running a Core i7 2600K CPU I think 3.4Ghz with 16GB RAM and one of the more powerful GeForce video cards that requires the direct power taps from PSU. Unsure of the specific GeForce GPU model. He is edging me to upgrade, but I am sticking with 7 for now on my Athlon II x4 2.6Ghz and 4GB Ram because I hate the new interface that I have sampled on demo computers. My quadcore system is fast enough for me just the way it is and I am happy with 40-60fps with my ATI Radeon 5450HD 1GB DDR3 PCIe card on normal settings. I was going to have him run passmark benchmark for before and after upgrade comparison, but he was in a rush to upgrade to windows 8, so unless he puts 7 back on there is nothing to compare against to have actual values to compare against and share.
