Answer» Hello, a year ago I invested a large amount of money into a high powered desktop. It ran well for a few months. After that, I instantly began experiencing fps drops and lag spikes in games, even the ones I enjoyed during those few months. I have tried many solutions, including re-installing the games and I am growing desperate.

What make and model is it? Howe much hard drive space is used bad how much available? If this wee my computer, I would break the problem into AREAS. I wound partition the hard drive and install a new copy of Window 7 on a new partition. Then I would install just the games of interest. And a bar AV program, like Microsoft essentials.
Then if the issue went away, I would think that it is not the hardware. I has to be something that changes the software settings.
That could take about three hours of work, depending on l various factors. But at least you would know it is not the hardware.

It's there in the post, AMD FX-8120.
Levi, have you checked your temperatures at all? This kind of issue can be caused by several things, I would start by monitoring your temperatures to rule out any overheating. Core Temp and GPU-Z will check and log your CPU and GPU temperatures and, helpfully, SHOW the highest recorded temperature, so you can play till you have the issue, come out of the game, then check the program to see what temperatures were reached.
Did anything happen before this issue started, or did it seemingly begin out of the blue?greetings!
i built my tower 2 years ago now and have pretty close to what you have.... amd 8120 and a ati 6870.... what ive noticed that sometimes certain games dont run well with that many cores. so i disabled a few. to do so hit start search run then msconfig...
here read this:'
http://en.kioskea.net/faq/616-multicore-cpu-how-to-disable-a-corealso forgot to mention. the stock cpu cooler with that cpu isnt the best..... i too have noticed my cpu runs a little HOTTER as more games come out... i will personally be upgrading my heatsink. make sure you got no dust there either
