Again, the entire point was completely missed. It's been said; maybe your specs appear elsewhere on the forum, but just because something was mentioned in passing doesn't mean everybody else will have it on instant recall. There was a post your....what?

To repeat what we've all been saying, we are simply not bothered to go searching the three thousand posts if yours looking for your most recent specs. From now on, unless otherwise stated, I'm going to assume his computer is a Commodore 64. I will then provide the simple advice "Try RUN" until the specs are otherwise revealed to NOT be a commodore 64.

nah, I'm kiddin. I'm going to do it anyway.I don't think the doctor slapped this guy at birth, they played tennis with him .... Quote from: squall_01 on December 15, 2008, 03:31:26 PM

Often times, that happens.

I was once told by a former employer that a computer network is like a card house. If you pull the wrong card, the whole thing may come tumbling down.

In other words, sometimes the smallest problems have a large number of factors.

that seems a little far out there. But that kind of scary to think about that HAPPING with out me aware of it.

Computers do a lot of things without people being aware of it. In some cases, that's a bad thing (viruses, malware), in some cases, that's a good thing (I don't need to see all the 1s and 0s when I copy a file). In case of suppressing a Blue Screen of Death, I'm not sure why Microsoft decided to do this. Maybe they though home users would **** their pants after seeing one.

Usually those are "for fun" topics (also known as "SHOW your e-peen"). They don't get stored in some database or anything for people to reference to whenever things go wrong. In a perfect world, it would.

In any case, if you really want to have the info handy for people to reference to without having to repeat yourself, finish filling out your Forum Profile Information under "Computer." So far, you only have "Pentium 4 2.8 GHz" showing up...

Now I can draw a few conclusions just from the CPU, though:

1) Socket 478 motherboard.
2) Northwood or Prescott core
3) DDR1 RAM

Since Socket 478 boards aren't available retail anymore, your best bet would be eBay for a new board.

Otherwise, save your money and put that toward a new build. If you go down this path, you'll have to get, at the very least:
1) New motherboard (of course)
2) New CPU
3) New RAM (DDR2 or DDR3, depending on the board)
4) New video card if you were using an AGP card (Socket 478 boards have AGP slots--new boards have PCI-e for video cards)
5) New power supply if your old one is less than 500W, a generic brand name model, or lacks an EPS12V connector.Quote from: Raptor on December 18, 2008, 11:35:46 AM
