Answer» Hey guys what's happenin? Umm...I'm just looking for a new distro to try out. I'm getting sick of SuSE 9.3 (it keeps being really gay). I've used SLAX, CentOS, and SuSE 9.3 if that will help you recommend any.
Thanks for the recommendations if any!Ubuntu (I prefer the Kubuntu flavour, or Xubuntu for slower machines).
Why not head over to DistroWatch?
Tag, you're it, Mark. Actually...I'm downloading Ubuntu as we speak, lol. I've tried looking at Distro Watch...but there are just so many choices, I just can't seem to choose one.
Also...I'm out of CD's and only have DVD's left...so if you could recommend a good distro that has a DVD ISO available that'd be sweet.
Thanks for the help.I would say Fedora is OK, Debian is pretty cool, Mandriva is even allright, and Linspire has a lot going for it. HECK they all have something going for them. It depends what you want.
Do you want to try out a gazillion new applications?
Do you want something that is very Windows like?
Do you want something free? (Although you should contribute to whatever you use.)
Do you want basic tasks and it just works - period?
Do you like to recompile kernels?
Are you afraid to recompile a kernel?
Let us know what you are after. There is a flavor for you.
LinuxFromScratch and Gentoo are great for masochists who REALLY want to understand how Linux works...rob...I'll check out LFS.
GX1_Man;
1) I like trying new apps, especially if they are usefull. 2) Something that is Windows like is not something nessesary, but ya know, whatever. 3) Yes, I would like something free. 4) I do basic tasks and thing a little more 'extreme'. I use things like Open Office Suite, GAIM, etc...I also use things like VSFTPD, SAMBA, and other stuff like that. 5 & 6) I've never recompiled a Kernel before but I'm not afraid to try. I MEAN, what's the worst that could happen? I have to reinstall?
Let me know...Thanks for the help.Vector Linux or straight Debian for you then my friend.Fo' shizzle. I'll check them out right now. Do they happen to have DVD ISO's? Because I'm kind of out of CD's to use...lol.Quote rob...I'll check out LFS. Eek! Is that before or after you've scooped out your eyeballs with a rusty teaspoon?!Uhhh....I don't feel comfortable answering that QUESTION....
