Solve : make mozilla cache file readable?

Answer»

Hi, I was recently on a popular image board, and had opened a substantial number of images in new tabs. However, when I started to save the images, I only got a few of them before the thread 404'd (died/ceased to be hosted due to overload).

I think there might be 2 different potential solutions for getting the images I have opened in my browser DOWNLOADED to the hard drive, but I need a bit of guidance. I'm using MOZILLA 1.7.13.

1) The browser window is still open, and I can still see the images in each of the tabs; I thought that I could right click + copy the image and then paste into another program like MS Paint or Photoshop (or EVEN Word), but none of the programs will let me do so (there is no evidence that the image makes it onto the clipboard). Is there some way of getting the image in the tab to save?

2) I figured the images would probably still be in my cache, so I searched and found my Mozilla cache at C:\Documents and Settings\(user name)\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\mnq0ly5l.slt\Cache. I found the files corresponding to the time period I was looking for and then added the file extension ".jpg" to the end of the name, and that has given me a lot of the images.. However, I believe the rest (the one's I accessed earliest but want most) are in a file called "_CACHE_003_", but I don't know what extension to give it to make it readable. Below is a screencap of the properties of this file.

Can anyone suggest what extension to give this cache file to make it a viewable folder? Or, alternatively, suggest how I might get the images off the browser tabs?

Thanks in advance for your time and any advice you can offer

Try dragging the cache into ff...if not, there is still a chance you can:

File > Save Page As

Web page, complete

Should have every picture...

Otherwise... rule 35 buddy.

Please note: Rule 40 is in effect...Rule 40 is in effect!Quote from: HELPMEH on May 28, 2009, 07:43:40 PM

thanks for this, but so far it hasn't helped.

I tried dragging the cache file into firefox, but it can't go in the URL bar, and when I drag it anywhere else it just downloads it back to the hard drive unchanged.

I tried saving the page - File > Save Page As - but it gives me this message:
"The link could not be saved. The web page might have been removed or had its name changed."

I've never had this happen before, I seem to recall being able to save images even after the thread 404'd in the past ...Quote from: rojerd on May 28, 2009, 07:55:56 PM
