Kudos to Raptor.Do you use MSN Explorer? If not, why not remove it? To do that, go to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, click on Add/Remove Windows Components, and remove that little bugger.Removing MSN Explorer was a disaster. By doing that it knocked out any connection to the internet. When you connect with the XP internet wizzard it makes you use MSN explorer. So now I have it back. At least i can GET on the internet. So still have not FIGURED out how to make IE my default.Gary.....Try this ..... click start /All programs....then select Internet Explorer ...it should open and if you have no connection should open a connection wizard for you ......

Removing MSN Explorer causes no problem whatsoever IF you do not have it set as your default browser or have it set as part of your Internet connection settings. So let me try again. I've tried everything that was suggested. If I delete MSN explorer I have no way to connect to the internet. I think the problem maybe that I have not been able to install MS Office Outlook Connector for MSN. Does any one know anyting about this? To get on the internet now I have to use MSN explorer, then I CLOSE it and it allows me to still stay on the internet. Then I click on FIREFOX to continue. If I click on the Firefox icon nothing happens unitil I get on the net using MSN explorer. What I'm trying to do is get on like my old computer (Windows 98) where I clicked on Firefox icon and then it brought up my sign in connector to MSN ISP (not explorer). Also without getting rid of MSN explorer I can't get all my emails on one email site. Now some go to Outlook Express and some go to MSN explorer email. I want to solve that problem also. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Well, now you mention MSN as your ISP or former ISP. Is it your current ISP? If so, that changes the picture here. I would not have made my previous comment about removing MSN Explorer if Ihad know your ISP is MSN. I'm not sure, but I believe you may need to connect via MSN Explorer with MSN as your ISP. My mother used MSN for awhile; I know she connected by opening MSN Explorer. Then, if she wanted to use IE, she could open it and use it. If I recall correctly, I believe she could close MSN Explorer once she had made a connection.

Hopefully, SOMEONE who uses MSN as their ISP will offer some suggestions. I don't think I can help further with this.Yes MSN is my ISP on the new computer. Yes, I do open the internet with MSN explorer. the close it and use Firefox. Can't believe there is no other way. Thanks Soybean for your responses.Problem solved in an unexpected way. Knowing I would not use MS messenger, I removed it from my hard drive. Now when I open the internet using MSN it does not bring up MSN Explorer. Can't use MSN Explorer without having Messenger loaded on computer. So I can get on the internet and then off to using Firefox. Fiefox - always a good solution! Windows Internet Connection Wizard to set up the connection followed by the browser of your choice.
