Solve : Myst will not save?

Vista 64. Save and choose OVERWRITE but when I reopen game I am at start again. Do I need to enter a world and save there?

Searched FAQ for solution and couldn't find it.Which version of Myst?
Have you tried to run it inside of the XP mode for Windows 7?
