Answer» Could someone help me with these questions? I have a class exam coming up on Wed., and there will be some questions covering Linux commands and such. I have no experience with Linux, and the course didn't really cover anything on it but just the history and overall what Unix and Linux is. I haven't taken my COBOL programming class that's supposed to help me with this either. Here are the questions the instructor gave me:
1. What command did PID 2 execute?
2. What command(s) would you type to change to directory called /usr/doc if you are currently in the /etc directory?
3. What percent of /home is free space?
4. What date and time did the first user logon?
5. What appears on the first line of /etc/esd.conf?
6. What would you type to display the contents of /home so that it stops after the first screen and allows you to scroll down through the list?
7. Is /usr/man a directory or a file? How do you know?
8. Who can execute /usr/man?
9. Execute who –z. The system provides you with instructions on how to receive additional help. Execute the command. What is the email address the resulting instructions say to use to report bugs?
10. According to the online manual, what is the purpose of the abort command?
11. What is the name of the first file in /usr? 12. What command would you type to create a directory called /usr/test_area?
13. What if anything is wrong with the following command? copy /usr/test_area/test1 /usr
14. What date was the server last booted?
15. What command do you type when you want to exit a Linux session?
16. How many files (not directories or links) are in the root directory?
17. What does file does OPT in the root directory point to? This is not a simple question. This sounds like a large portion of the test. If so, then it must be covered in the BOOK. Good luck.My exam will cover 4 chpts. plus these Linux command questions. In all, I would say that they will make up about 20% of the questions on the exam. Probably about 4-6 questions.
My teacher had logged into the school's Linux server, and walked us through some examples...not any of the above questions though. I didn't have a clue as to what each thing meant when she entered some commands.I am not that good with linux but i do know that all most all the anwsers to these question will be able to be found with a google search. this may also help http://www.digilife.be/quickreferences/QRC/Bash%20Quick%20Reference.pdf mitchd,
