Answer» I have windows XP and explorer. I was on the net when a warning BOX popped up and then the computer turned off. After starting up again it all looked the same, virus scan didn't show anything but now when trying to LOG on the internet, my dial up keeps saying no dial tone. I have checked and DOUBLE checked the phone jack and wiring all work, it's something in my computer and i don't know what. I also checked the device manager and my modem is working correctly. hope you can help thanks DebbieQuote when a warning box popped up...which said?some sort of threat didn't GET a chance to read it and the computer shut offGo Start>Run, type in: cmd Click OK. In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one: ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew Restart computer.after I typed in the ipconfig/registerdns comand it said windows 2000 IP configuration Error: unrecognized command line argument sorry maybe I have windows 2000?There is "a space" after "ipconfig". Hold Windows key on your keyboard, and click Pause/Break key to see what Windows version you have.Sounds like you got some kind of maleware spyware or something. I would scan your pc. Then do a restart shoufld fix it.Possible, but there is no connection to download anything.after I do the release command It says No operation can be preformed on adapter Local Area Connection 2 as this connect ion has its media /cable disconnected.Windows 2000 version 5.0Download, install, and run LSP-Fix: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm Restart computer, and see, if it helped. If not... Download, install, and run WinSockFix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml Restart computer, and check again. They both work with Windows 2000.I'll have to burn it at work and try it another day. thank you for the help. DebbieNo problem |
