Answer» I built my PC last summer when I heard Oblivion was going to be made. I spent the big PAINFUL dollars, and I came up with this.
RAM: Geil 2x512mb PC2-5300 (633mHz) CPU: Pentium4 3.4ghz HT (Dual Core) HDD: Some expensive hunk of 140GB...i doubt the HDD speed is the prob Vid: Nvidia GeForce 7800 GT 256mb(XFX)
Now I own Oblivion and it's a beautiful game and all, I like that when I pop the DVD in the game says, "oh you have the 7800 well I'm just going to put it on ULTRA HIGH GRAPHICS!!!!!" Which I thought was pretty flockin sweet. Unfortunately the game bogs down when there are more than 3 NPCs nearby. Anyone who plays Oblivion should know there's a few scenes where there's about 50 guys trying to kill you at once, usually about the time when the game crashes and corrupts my quicksave file. My pc has no viruses because I installed a fresh copy of windows when i bought the game. What do you guys think I should buy for my pc to make the game run faster? I was thinking of getting some really expensive RAM but saw that mine wasn't even that bad. I was really hoping that I could start putting the resolution settings up to 1024x768 and make it set the view distance on everything to max just like on the previews. oh well...let me know what i should doid just suggest another gig of RAM.Gaming is expensive. your GFX card doesn't have enough memory , i suggest a Second one.
Ive not Tyred Oblivion on mine yet , but its a similar computer, only i have the Geforce7950 and i EXPECT it will still slow down at parts
just so you know the 7950 is too 7900's with 512 Vram Each No buying another graphics card wont work. Nvidia ANNOUNCED that SLI is just stupid because they havent mastered the technology yet and it actually slows your computer down. I don't know if getting a 512mb graphics card is going to help. From what I've researched, supposedly oblivion can run fine with a 126mb graphics card at full graphics if you have the hardware. I'm just thinking, that I MAY get pc2-8500 speed ram. What does everyone else think of that?Buying Some Really Fast Ram like that would be Very Nice, only it wont stop the Game from Skipping, As most of the Textures are loaded into Vram, and thats where the GFX card looks when it Trys to Draw a New Frame, i don't think a game like Oblivion could Run Well on 128Mg GFX Card, unless its Ram Was clocked to twice its Recommended Speed.
I Have 1Gig of DDR2 4600ram , ill go install Oblivion tonight on my Computer and Tell you How it Go's, ill Even Turn off one GFX card. and ill give you the Results.
If i were you i would not Spend any Money until you Were Sure of Where The problem was.ok sounds good, thanksI Tried Playing Last night, i cant Say i got to play Very far, i didn't even get out of the Sewers, It ran Pretty Good, when Entering a Room it Did Skip just a little, and then Smoothed out.
I was Running at MAX every thing with HDR on,
You would Probably Benefit From More Ram, but i still think you would See a bigger improvement with More Video Ram
I'm beginning to think maybe i should get more ram.. people have been telling me 2 gigs is the Standard for Gaming now
Just remember , get Ram thats the Same Speed as the ram you have or you will lose Performancewell from what you told me, I think I'm going to need more RAM and not a video card. Because mine runs at max everything with HDR, and it runs just about as smoothly as you said in the beginning. But wait till you get outside, that's where the game really starts taking a toll. By the way you can see things on the landscape that are literally like 2 miles away, without any of that crappy fog stuff used to pull down view distance. Which does slow my pc down and can get annoying, but my biggest issue is with the NPCs, like monster battles aren't too bad because monster AI is pretty simple, but when you walk into a town full of people, they all have their own agendas like work, and gossip, and making up their mind whether they want to rob a store or get something to eat. That's when the game gets really choppy, that and when you do the Battle for Castle Kvatch mission, after you open the gate, about 15 Daedra run out and my game actually crashed and corrupted my quicksave file about 6 times. I had to run in the church and do autosaving and regular saving.I guess the Xbox360 Version wasn't as bad as i thought it Was Heh, I did intend to get out side , i just had no time, I'm going to try gain tonight, and what really annoying is i couldn't save , so i have to do the Whole Sewer again! Dagnab it
if your Buying some Ram can you Send me some? Please
Just Remember , buy ram thats the Same speed as what you have, DDR2 works in Pairs , and the Pairs have to be the Same Speed , but I'm not sure what happens when you have to Pairs that are of Different Speeds, i doubt it would be goodDude I figured it out! It was the monitor I kid you not! Didn't even think about it. But I was converting DVI to Serial from vid card to monitor. And Recently I've been wanting to get an LCD to make extra space on my desk, so I went nuts and bought a dual channel DVI monitor with a 2ms refresh rate. Well I'm sure the refresh rate had nothing to do with it but I bet you anything that i no longer had to convert Dual DVI to serial had everything to do with it. I was able to turn oblivion up ALL the way on graphics and am now running at 1280x1024 resolution and barely am getting any skip even when I'm outside. All it cost me was 250.00. I got a View Sonic 19" X series with 2ms refresh rate. Not only is the high definition gaming nice but man playing the game smoothly really blows the experience away.
