Solve : OS and Browser setup for older PC?

Answer»

I would like to set up my old laptop PC for my Mom to use for web-based email and basic browsing, and have it as bullet proof as POSSIBLE since she has little KNOWLEDGE about PCs. It's a circa 1998 Dell with Pentium 133 and I think 64M RAM.

I'd PREFER not to GIVE her the Windows 98 that's currently on it, so I'm wondering if the best setup would be old versions of Linux and Netscape/Firefox or something like that. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks
RickOld versions probably will not have up to date security and software and 64 meg is really pushing it for a graphical front end.

You might look at VectorLinux.

If you are using dialup, modems can be a problem as well unless it is a real hardware MODEM (not a WinModem) or if you are on broadband.
