Solve : Please help me out...?

Answer»

I know close to nothing about computers, so please bear with me. I have been trying to download files for a game I play. When I open the FOLDER, Firefox asks me what it should do with the file, and under it is two options: SAVE, or open. There is a drop-down box that is automatically set to open with Internet Explorer. I click 'open', and an internet explorer window pops up, then disappears, and two smaller boxes appear afterward. One says "getting file information", and the other asks yet again if I want to open or save the file. If I click 'open' again, it simply repeats, over and over, until I either get tired of clicking 'open' and give up, or I click 'save', which does not solve the problem. I have tried using Adobe to open my files, but it can't read it. Firefox does the same thing as Internet Explorer. These are .package files, so I don't know if there is something special I need to open them or what. I just want to be able to open my dowloads!!! What game is it? What web site are you getting them from or is it a game server? What are the names of the files? What happens if you save them and try to open them with IE?

The more information you can give us the better.

Thanks
The Sims 2, and I've been attempting to download custom content from www.thesimsresource.com
There are multiple files that I've tried to dowload, but an example of one would be Fence1Carlos_S2Studio.package, and the file type is package_auto_file

What's odd is that some of these files have worked before, but only sporadically. Now none of them whatsoever.

When I save a file and try to open it, a blank IE page opens and closes very rapidly, and afterward two small-ish windows pop up, one asking me if I want to save or open the file. If I click save, it will tell me the file is already saved and it'll ask if I want to save again. If I click open, the cycle repeats with a black IE page, the boxes, etc. It's very hard for me to explain because my knowledge is very limited..

I also tried going back to other files that I previously downloaded, to see if they would wok, but they don't!You may have to delete on the downloaded and saved files before attempting to redownload it again. The way you have described it is you are downloading the same files over and over again. Another is they may be corrupted. Always download from known legal SOURCES to avoid being infected.Been some time since i used Firefox so i am more than a bit hazy on how downloading is now done in it. But in case it produces a PROCESS similar to what happens in Opera (my BROWSER) when you select a "download" it does so in a separate location at the top of your task bar at the top of the browser window. It is a small window called (download). It can be opened to show the downloads that have accumulated there (if not removed0 and any current download being executed and it's progress. Once the file completes you must click on it to "open" it. Is it possible that is happening in your case? truenorthTools---Options---General tab---Downloads
