Answer» I run winxp, internet explorer 6.0 Every time i put a letter into the address bar, a bunch of sites come up from the drop-down list. Regardless of how many times i delete history, temp int FILES, spy-ware, ad-ware, virus scans, nothing fixes this problem. Somewhere on my computer is a folder hidden (even though i already search with hidden folders shown) that contains all these url files, and i cannot find it. It's a crime against privacy and i want them removed, but cannot. I've tried programs to delete all history and all, but i'm not even interested in that, just those webpages that i logged onto 3 years ago and still pop up, with not apparent source! It's really not that important, my computer runs fine with it (i think...) but it's just really really PISSING me off....
thanks for your patience and help.To clear the saved sites from the address bar TRY the following: Select Tools from the menu bar and click 'Internet Options'. Select the 'Content' tab and press 'Autocomplete...' Press 'Clear Forms'. If you want to stop IE from saving addresses, remove the check mark from the box next to 'Web addresses'.
Don't ask me why you need to clear the forms in Autocomplete but this has been known to work. Thanks for the help. I did what you said, and the drop-down list stopped popping up. So I feel I'm HALFWAY there, since yes--it doesn't show up anymore in the address bar -- but all the files and urls are still on my computer somewhere, i haven't deleted them. This is probably the strangest problem i EVER encountered, not being able to locate a batch of files anywhere on my computer. When you tell IE to clear the URLs, it should delete them completely.
But if you want to make sure, you can check it manually. Give this article a read: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=157729
Or you could use CCleaner. This will delete all your browsing history completely. (Install it without the Yahoo bar). We also have a guide on the forum on how to set it up. Configuring CCleanerthanks for all the help. I was told a little while ago to try ipurge and that totally did the trick. it managed to erase all those urls that were hidden somewhere on my comp and they don't show up anymore. thanks again for your time!
