Solve : Possible to have firewall while being at the CD/DVD Live session?? |
Answer» Is it possible to install and have it while being at the CD/DVD session? I mean Live Distro Mint 14. I'd like to log in to my bank account and stuff like that. I think better to have a firewall then. I don't really like to install Linux on my system that's why this question. You, my friend, need to install Linux on a USB stick. You could even set it up so you can save your data after you shutdownMaybe you mean to have a Linux ISO image on my USB stick? I don't get it how could I install OS to USB stick? Yes, that's what I have - Linux Mint 14 ISO image on my USB stick. To make that ISO workable from USB stick I USED Unetbootin program. Quote from: Geek-9pm on June 20, 2013, 02:43:18 PM Maybe the router has a firewall could use.No, my router doesn't have one. Yep, Unetbootin, that's what I used and it's not an ISO image, it's just a bootable version of Linux that runs off a flash drive. The computer treats the USB stick is a hard drive, and just boots from the OS on it.Yes, you're RIGHT. Once an ISO file went thru Unetbootin it couldn't be any LONGER ISO. My bad I've found something http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=134980 Seems like the firewall in there - while at the Live session. To make sure I went to Menu-Software Manager and in the search field I typed: firewall. Had a list of firewalls then, and on that list ufw had been marked as an installed firewall Quote from: Roguebantha on June 20, 2013, 02:35:49 PM You could even set it up so you can save your data after you shutdownI have already tried to save a couple of downloads. Doesn't work for me. Once I end the session and the day after I start a new one there is NOTHING else left on my flash drive except of OS files and folders. Not mentioning about a couple simple settings on my Linux desktop - they have gone too. So, my question: how could I set up the things on my bootable flash drive to be able to save my data? Also to be able to save some of my desktop settings, if this possible. Never mind. I have found this out. Have to mark option "persistence" in the program before you let an ISO go thru it. So I made one with "persistence" and it even works (saves files, settings, bookmarks etc.) There you go! |
