Solve : Problems with new version of FireFox??

Answer»

Are there known problems with the newest two versions of Firefox?  Ever since I upgraded, I've had a few problems:

1) pdf files don't load... or they load VERY slowly.  I even reloaded the plug-ins.  The status bar indicates... "Loading xxx..xxxx...xxx page" then "Stopped" then "Loading xx.xx.xx" over and over...   makes you dizzy to watch as it tries to load the pdf.  If I switch to IE, I can load the same pdf without any problems.
2) Google Maps doesn't load 4 out of every 5 times.  I enter an address/destination/whatever, and it just displays "Loading" forever.  Again, switch to IE.... no problems.

What's going on?  Internet Explorer works, but I'd prefer to use FireFox.  Is the newest version of Firefox just full of ERRORS?

If it matters, I'm using Windows XP, and these problems ONLY starting occuring after I upgraded to the the Firefox 3.0 and the 3.0.2 upgrade that came out soon after...
I just did a complete reinstall, hoping that would fix the problem.  It didn't.  Why would accessing Google Maps work in IE, but not in Firefox?  Why would loading pdf files start and stop, about 10x a second (you can see it loading, "stopping", loading, "stopping"... back and forth, repeatedly) with the new version of Firefox?  (and again, not with IE)  I truly prefer FireFox, but if I can't fix these problems, I guess I need to go back to IE...     Hi! philk

Here some option for you for fixing Firefox problem:
Open the Firefox and then go through Tools>Options>Applications> where you find content type and action list. You have to change the actions to Use Adobe Acrobat(in Firefox) where content type contains Adobe Acrobat and then restart the firefox.DLoad and install Foxit Reader...you won't be dissappointed.Jugalboro - thanks for your suggestion.  I don't think I'm explaining my problem very well: the Adobe viewer is installed and Firefox is using it, but its like Firefox won't "receive" the pdf transfer.  Sometimes, if I wait a VERY long time, the document will show.  It's as if the download of pdfs specifically (and maybe also Google Maps?) are being horribly delayed.... like my bandwidth is instantly shrunk to 1/100 its normal size.  The stop/start issue is particularly troubling.  And again, this ONLY happened after I downloaded the upgrade for Firefox (3 and also 3.0.3)...

Patio - thanks for your suggestion.  I will also look into that.

DLoad and install Foxit Reader
Uninstall Adobe Reader. It's a horrible tool.
FoxIt: http://www.filehippo.com/download_foxit/changelog/Hi - tried the Foxit reader instead.  That just freezes up when I try to view/download pdf files through Firefox.

I just dont think I'm explaining my issue well enough- my fault.  I just dont understand why Google Maps and PDFs would not download through Firefox, but they will download through IE.  I can't think of any logical reason.  The new Firefox has not been nearly as reliable (for me at least) as the last ones, so I'll PROBABLY just reinstall the old version.Close Firefox. Go Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox, click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode). Same thing? How much RAM ?
How much free space on that HDD ?
What type of internet connection ?

If .pdf's are locking up 2 different apps you may have other issues...Patio - my computer has 2 GB RAM, 36 GB free on the HD, and a basic cable (512 I think) internet connection.  Downloading speed is not an issue when I use IE.

Broni - yes, it does seem to work more frequently than in regular mode.  I just RAN through it a dozen times- when in Safe Mode, I am more likely to get to the PDF in a timely manner,  but I dont always get there.  In regular mode, I am getting to PDFs every now and then as well.

It's as if my computer is sensitive to NETWORK traffic...  (right now, at 1am, not that many people are online)  is there a way/reason that the FIREFOX connection is slower or slows itself down during very busy times?  That doesnt make sense, but neither does this problem...  Your profile may be corrupt.
Create new profile, and if it works OK, you can transfer all data from the old one to the new one.

I think you are on to something.  I created a new profile, and so far things are running smoothly.  Google Maps and PDF files load/download normally.  Will continue to test, and I'll post my results here shortly.    Thanks!Good news Fire  fox quit displaying after an update by somebody.  I could see it in the task bar but could not get a gui display.  I thought XP had gone flaky as it had become less and less functional over the past two years, (Word quit working and it would not let me reinstall.) So I reinstalled Windows and now FF won't even show up in the taskbar on a clean WinXP home install on my Dell Dimension E531 dual core AMD with 3 gig of memory and lots of space on my hard drives.  Did Mozilla screw up or did MS disable FF with an update?  I have never liked IE and now I am forced to use it or Flock which has a Mozilla engine but it still works.  I miss my FireFox!  Its high level of functionality an ease of use has me spoiled.grichardt
