Solve : reinstall IE6 browser? Error message in here...?

Answer»

I'm running IE6 but my Ooutlook Express mail program continues to use OE5. I thought "Windows update", downloaded from Microsoft home page would update the OE program.... It didn't.
I tried re-downloading the 'ie6setup' file from the MS wesite, but now I get a dialog box when trying to install the new file.

A previous installation has pending work requiring a reboot. You need to restart your computer to complete that instalation before running IEsetup. Set-up will now close.
When I try to install programs in the 'start>settings>CONTROL panel>add remove programs', there is only one program listed; "Adobe Acrobat 5.0".
I'm running a Systemax desktop PC, Athlon processor {AZ11 mainboard}, Windows ME OS.
I've tried restarting several times but get the same dialog box.
Also recent BIOS, OS problems have occured which I think I have 90%solved {at least it runs efficiently now as opposed to repeated failed start-up's.}.
I can post more info if needed. I'm no PC wizard, only a car mechanic, so please keep the replies fairly elementary if possible.
Thank's for any help!!!
Mike Do a system restore to an EARLIER point when all was well. Now do an update for Internet Explorer.

Alan <>< Since you have an older OS, and IE7 is the latest version of IE, I think you're going to have problems with this. End of support for Windows 98, Windows Me, and Windows XP Service Pack 1. An email client CALLED Thunderbird is often recommended here in the forum. You can get it here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

Is this what you tried to download: Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1? If not, you might try downloading it from there.Quote

Thank's Alan, but as I mentioned, I've had several problems getting the BIOS re-flashed, re-installing most of my software {including IE6] and since all the bugs are not yet re-solved, I haven't created a restore point to select. All restore points I selected before this issue were lost in there somewhere
I do have 2 'system check points' in the 'System Restore' menu, but attempts to restore to those dates yeild a dialog box after re-start = "system restore was unsuccessful".
I have software to recover files from the application file - "C\restoration" where I have recovered files deleted from recycle bin. I may be able to use that program to recover those restore points. I haven't tried that yet. Thanks for the idea!!!

lectrocrew you can not uninstal IE because it is a part of WinXP, for uninstalling try to use WinXP Manager v4.95.2 or other program like this. Practicaly this program does not uninstal IE, he only modify some reg key to allow new installation of IE6

If you follow the link above, you FIND a .rar file which contains WinXp manager Trial Version and dotnetfx. This last program is absolut necessary to install before installing WinXP manager. After you finish the instalation of WinXp Manager, run it and you will find in the bottom of left menu a part dedicated for IE which have options for uninstalling or repair IE.

Good luck!Quote

He should be able to uninstall IE6, taking him back to a previous version of IE. Win ME shipped with IE 5.5.
