Solve : Self Made RPG!? |
|
Answer» Hello all, I would like to say that for my college finals I have to make a fully functional, representable, 'sellable' RPG. Now as some of you may know, programming such a thing from scratch is a tedious and time-consuming task. This is why I've come here to seek some extra help and tips from you guys! Especially since this is the games forum and I know that some of you are hardcore gamers. =) Alright so what I'm asking is, can you please think of all the possible elements a(n) (good) RPG has to have? Basic elements I've come up with: - Menu's - Screen Managers - Character - Character animation - Life - Weapons - Abilities - Movement (N, NE, NW, S, SE, SW, E, W) - Battle System - Game Engine - Map Editor - Map System - NPC class - NPC AI - Enemies - Enemy AI - Interaction with objects (open box, get item, close box) - Quest system - MenuButton handling - Balloon dialogue - Cutscenes? - Levels - Tile System I'm asking this because I have to build every little aspect of the game. What makes a top RPG game? Excellent programming + touching story + various personalities + good music? lang: XNA sublang: C# Treval Quote I know that some of you are hardcore gamers Oh That Term Suits Best For Me You Should Also Add Reputation System , Making Characters etc...... Nice, man! Even though I will spend infinite hours on the previously mentioned aspects, I am still open for more input on what makes a great RPG and what makes an RPG. I GOT 3 months left.. not a lot.. -gasp-.You know what would be awsome? If someone made a zombie survival - FPS RPG w/multiplayer. Kind of like a combination of killing foor, left 4 DEAD, fallout 3, borderlands, and bioshock if you need an idea of what it should look like. Too bad my game is gonna be like Zelda. =P lolll. If You Really Want A RPG Game Made Make It REALLY Different Such As Batman In Open World , With RPG Elements And His Bosses As Playable Characters , And Gotham City To Free Roam , And Dont 4get Me "The Joker" Or the flanderized version of the Riddler: The DiddlerFirst I have to make sure I get the basic engine functionality working.. LOL. =PA good RPG game needs A creative mind, like The_mad_joker said " Make it really different " you have to have your imagination and Create something different. But anyway my suggestion would be - Good STORYLINE - Your own features and different style of game play - Maps, and levels for Multiplayer and single player etc... there many more I can't be bothered with A list, But yeah I see your intresting in making A game like Zelda. Well go for it but what I would say is make it more different has use your on TECHNICS and do things you would change which games never had, you really don't want to be known for being like the game Zelda either, obviously you want to be known just for being a succesful game. A storyline would be good to because it draws people into the game not just the action, but obviously that would add up for A lot of work but it's something you can go for, so good luck man I hope it becomes A success for you college.Quote Or the flanderized version of the Riddler: The Diddler Being a hardcore gamer , in my opinion, 1. A good RPG has to have at least good gameplay! 2. Great gripping storyline which sucks the user in, with a few twists 3. Good user-friendly quick interface 4. characterization, CUSTOM your character to your liking, pick from melee, ranged, magic, etc. 5. Become good or evil, allow for free will, clearly defined between good and evil, maybe neutral 6. Level ups, upgrade skills, different skill sets for different characters 7. Collect money/points for purchasing better armour, weapons 8. There Should Be A Big Hardcore Sword/Weapon. People love where they quest for a good item. 9. Many ways to finish quests, different outcomes (replay value) 10. The game should have as many plot-driven doors as possible, maybe even a romance subplot. 11. Good AI worth fighting, somewhat original, lots of different enemies/monsters 12. Battles must be fun and varied, same thing over and over can get boring quick 13. Super power or special ability for more fun and to be different (just not overkill) 14. Not over horrendous long boring dialouge, specially if text and can't skip 15. Good music and amosphere 16. Quality graphics (kids these days) 17. Intrigue, backstabbing, unexpected turns, convoluted plots, tragedy, war, and/or unstoppable odds 18. The game must have good boss fights. Bigger, badder and totally different! You are well thanked, Azzaboi! p.s.: that will take AT LEAST 30 days to accomplish all that.. provided I'm already an expert.. LOL! Please remember guys.. I'm not a SquareSoft team (hundreds of programmers, hundreds of artists.. hundreds of you name it..).. I'm just 1 guy. =P |
