Solve : Setting up Brother MFC-620CN with cups on Solaris?

Answer»

Hi,

I'm trying to move my printer server from an x86 machine running SuSE to a SPARC server running Solaris 10, and I'm having problems finding the right PPD FILE.

I have installed cups 1.15 foomatic and ghostscript and put in the foomatic-rip and foomatic-gswrapper SCRIPTS, and can start the cups admin page at http://localhost:631 however Brother don't supply a PPD file for the printer. I did find a cups driver rpm PACKAGE on their web site but as its Solaris I can't install it, so I tried the generic postscript PPD and my printer just hangs displaying "receiving data" on its lcd screen

I also did a find on the SuSE machine and found a PPD file on there which probably isn't written for foomatic/ghostscript and when I copy this to the Solaris server and select it as the printer's PPD then the printer doesn't do anything. Although a snoop shows it is just sending ACK Reset back to the server.

Has anyone any good ideas on. how to debug this or had any success printing to a Brother printer from Solaris using a different CONFIGURATION?

Thanks
ps sorry if there's typos as this is written on my HTCKeep looking.

Also, that printer can emulate one of the old HP laser jet printers. Look in the DOCUMENTATION. Of souse, you don't get all the features. But it will do some useful printing.
