With that being said, the PC owner had downloaded an upgrade for MSN Messenger (the down-load failed)

Now, when booting up, the desktop appears along with the error message displayed above.

I can't go anywhere.
I tried safe-mode, but it took me into a "compaq presario" land, which I didn't recognize.

Please help me, help them.
OS Win 98
Thats all the pc info I know about the unit.

Do you have a boot floppy.....load it at the A:\ type scanreg/fix I have 2 floppy boots.

1. Is ignored

2. "invalid system disk Replace the disk, and then press any key"

I will search on the internet for a new boot to download.

Thanks for posting Merlin. Another option. As the computer boots press and hold the CTRL key. This should bring a boot menu. Select "Command prompt only". At the prompt type scanreg/restore and select a date from before when the PROBLEM began.I am in!!!!

I am going to burn his files and reinstall 98 as there are missing win files.

Thanks so much
Make sure you have the sound/video/modem drivers etc to save TIME.....I didn't install win 98 yet, it keeps hanging

Upon start up I recieve a screen that says:

cannot find a device file that may be NEEDED to run windows or a windows application

The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exiists.

If you deleted this file on PURPOSE, try uninstalling the associated application using its uninstall or set up program.

If you still wan to use the applcation with this device file, try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VSHINIT.VXD
Press any key to continue_

What should I do?
And also like all us men >>give him gbh of the earhole
