Solve : Trouble installing Ubuntu?

Answer»

So this is my first time building a computer/installing Ubuntu so help me out a bit.

I am booting from a disc, when I power up a screen with my mobo's logo on it shows up

It disapears and a purple screen displays and when I hit any key the welcome screen shows up and asks me to select my language

I have five options; Try, Install, Check Disc, Test Memory, and Boot from first hard disc

Choosing any of the first four will do the following:
Monitor will switch back and forth from digital to analog, then the screen will go back to the mobo logo, essentially repeating the process.

To select boot from first hard disc just gives me a screen that says Booting from local hard disc...

Any ideas what might be wrong here?I'd try another cd. Quote from: JJ 3000 on December 16, 2010, 09:04:04 PM

I'd try another cd.

I did the first one didnt verify right when it burned but I tried it anyway and it gave me those problems. Then I burned a new one and it verified ok and still did the same thing.

The Welcome menu doesnt look like as its depicted on the ubuntu website either, its a lot more bare bone.

Also when it switches the monitor from analog to digital the lights on my LED keyboard flash.Do you have another cd burner that you can USE to burn a fresh disk?

What program are you using to burn the disk?

Where did you GET the iso?

Have you tried downloading a fresh copy? Quote from: JJ 3000 on December 16, 2010, 09:17:58 PM

What’s the big deal about Linux Mint and why is it so popular among Linux users? It’s because that it includes a NUMBER of improvements and tweaks that aren’t set up out-of-the-box in the BASE Ubuntu distribution.

Yes, and the LINK on PC-world will direct you to the new version. And BTW, it is one way to try out your 64 bit hardware for free. The have both 32 and 64 bit downloads. And you can still get the version 9 it you prefer.
