Solve : unable to open control panel?

Answer»

I have a HP with windows vista about 4 yrs old. When I try to open the control panel I get a message that reads "INTERNET explorer found a problem and is SHUTTING down." Then down it goes. Please, any suggestions would help. FYI, I don't KNOW anything about fixing computer problems.May I confirm that you mean CONTROL PANEL (Add/Remove programs; Users; Internet;etc.,etc.) or CTRL-ALT-DEL in SEARCH of TASK MANAGER?Quote from: tamfromtn on March 12, 2011, 06:26:17 PM

Internet Explorer is a web browser. So, I'm wondering whether you really meant "Windows Explorer", which would make more sense regarding the problem with Control Panel. Please confirm that the message actually says "Internet Explorer".You are right it reads "window explorer is shutting down. " So SORRY. How long has this been going on? Did you make any changes (hardware or software) to your computer just before this problem started? Since the first occurrence, has this always happened when you try to open Control Panel?
