Solve : What have I done Now??

Answer»

Hello and thank you for looking at my problem.

I recently cleaned out a problem from my computer here, and now I have a bit of time to sit and play with it.

I think that Adwcleaner sees some things as problems that actually are not, but it does take out the nasties.
My opening page to Ebay now had lots of ads being thrust upon me. (At first I thought it was just Ebay. They are constantly changing s^*t. )

So when I did sit down to it, I thought I might have to go into the F/F Options, to fix a few of the things that got deleted during the repair process. Which I did. (Im using F/F 21. on Win Xp Pro SP 3, on my tower. It has a Pentium 4, 3 Ghz with 2 Gig of Ram.)

And that is where it all went wrong.

There was a list of websites that had exemptions and I didn't know what the websites were.
So in my prudence of cleaning up, I deleted them.

The result was no better..... in fact worse

So I tried to restore it to an earlier time. Picked the recent one and reset. No joy.
I tried a restore point 2 days earlier and still no joy.

I took a picture of my opening page here that has the top banner in its correct position but the lower half (body) has moved 3/4 of the page to the right.

I dont know how THAT happened, nor do I know how I might fix it.

Any suggestions you might have would be most helpful.

Thank you ImnoGuru.

[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]I would try a trusted antivirus scan. If it comes up clean, a registry repair might fix the problem. Again, be sure it is a trusted program that you download. We don't suggest Registry scanner/cleaners here...for obvious reasons.1) Registry cleaners CAUSE problems, they don't cure them. The best of BREED do absolutely nothing. The worst will leave your system useless.

2) You've been here long enough to know that "What have I done Now?" is not an appropriate topic title. Give your threads a subject related to your problem and you'll get more and better help.Quote from: Allan on May 17, 2013, 03:17:11 PM

Thank you Allan for your reply, and I AGREE with you. It was a matter of frustration after curing a problem, but what do I title something like this?
I cured the other problem but this seems at best, to be a display issue? But not a Windows display issue, maybe a Firefox issue? (There is after all only one site in contention, all other sites seem to be OK)

Is there a way that I can reset the (maybe) display, back to a default setting? I tried a system restore, after I deleted websites that I was not familiar with, in "Options" "Allowed sites, Pop ups" but that didn't do it? It seems that deleting the sites I wasn't familiar with, was the cause of this.

( At the End of the day I got rid of Babylon problem) hahahaha.

Yes I agree there too patio, Every time I go somewhere these days there is an ad for "fix you computer" Blah blah blah & you know they will be crap.

Good info waltzcar, but How do I TRUST in one, unless it is either recommended or I bite the bullet and give it a go untested?

Hey and just on a side note what's with the underlined bits through "any" post and when you hover over them I am FACED with some sort of ad to whiten my teeth, win an IPad, answer these QUESTIONS and claim an IPhone 5, or play "Wintingo". Do you guys get money just because I hover over the link?, and how do I get some of this action? My bank balance could use a increase in activity on the the plus side..

Thank you ImnoGuru.
