| Answer» What is FireFox and how is it different from Internet Explorer? Maybe you got it free, but it's not free, and never will be. Internet explorer has been offered free since version 3 was released for free to help it compete with netscape. The only requirement now is a windows installation. 98 integrated IE4, 2000 integrated IE5, XP integrated IE6. I see no costs involves here aside from the OS; and if we say that is the PRICE of IE, then we cannot possibly say that Notepad or wordpad or paint or minesweeper or hearts or etc... are free either, since they impose the same requirement for a windows installation (naturally) Unless of course your measuring costs via potential damage due to security vulnerabilities, which are both impossible to predict within a farm's length as well as borderline pedantic. Okay.... THANKS for that (long pieces of) information... That is actually what I meant about it not being free. You can't actually get it for free without a Windows OS.that makes sense- except it only runs on a windows OS anyway- (old mac versions aside)- firefox runs on almost all popular platforms. Since the IE install is part of windows and it only runs on windows, it is essentially free since you would need to buy windows even if it was a SEPARATE product. As an example, if office was included, would we not call it free simply because of that? Or; we could be talking about the WGA cruft they insist on performing when you attempt to download IE7 for example; unfortunately for them, a quick google-search finds many un-WGA required downloads of IE7. (not the latest version sometimes, but it's a workable solution) Not that I even TOUCH IE voluntarily anymore.Hehe.. Look here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/#feature-vsieOne thing I like better about Firefox is that it manages passwords better than IE. That's a convenience; it SAVES a little time. You can even get IE on OS X so yes, I'd consider it freeware. Why you'd want to use either, especially in that combination is beyond me. Cool Thanks Keep the debate going Quote Keep the debate goingWhy ? Are you earning airline miles for posting what's been discussed numerous times ? ? I have to admit i feel much better since you have switched fonts instead of using the red highlighter feature... | |
