Solve : Which one would you recommend??

Answer»

I am currently using Windows Vista, and I am thinking about getting Ubuntu. So which would do you think is better? Why do you want to give up Vista?

I am a big fan of Ubuntu, so don't get me wrong, but you give up a lot of computability with the rest of the world when you switch to Linux.

What activities do you like to do on the computer?I mainly just browse the internet, would like to learn some coding, and other computer stuff.*Rob hides from impending religious war*here in the toaster.  I cant say that linux is user friendly for those who had no experince with it or that it is any better then windows or anything like that.I agree.  The larger versions of Linux are pretty user friendly once you get them going (I speak of my limited experience using Suse and Ubuntu).  Once I got Ubuntu "tweaked" it was very easy to USE, but it took trusting the input of folks on the Ubuntu forum who instucted what files to access, and lines of code to edit into the files.  (This was for a particular laptop I once had which needed some driver help, etc.)Is there a way that I can INSTALL it and can switch back to Vista whenever I want with all my apps still there?Depending on the space available on your drive, you can install a dual-boot configuration, which allows you to CHOOSE the operating system to which you want the computer to boot.Is there a tutorial for that on here?Just to clarify, you want a dual boot between Vista, which is already on the system, and Ubuntu Linux?all he has to do is then install linux I think or linux then vistaYes Aegis.OK, hang with me, and we'll see what we can find.

How much space do you have on the hard drive?

HERE is a nice guide for installing Ubuntu 9.04 onto a system which already has Vista.  It will dual boot with GRUB, the GRand Unified Bootloader.  I think Ubuntu will be in control, with the ability to boot to Vista.  If you want Vista to "lead," there are tweaks you can follow.

See what you think.  Let us know if you have questions.

Ok, I am going to try this now.I've got a laptop on which I might try to dual boot XP and Ubuntu, just to see what it is like.

Let us know how it GOES for you!I hope that isnt your MAIN one but whatever works.  I just would put it on a secondary one in case something went wrong.
