What do you mean by immunosuppression?

Answer» Immunosuppression\xa0(IH-myoo-noh-suh-PREH-shun) Suppression of the body\'s immune system and its ability to fight infections and other diseases.\xa0Immunosuppression\xa0may be deliberately induced with drugs, as in preparation for bone marrow or other organ transplantation, to prevent rejection of the donor tissue.\xa0Immunosuppressant\xa0drugs are a class of drugs that suppress, or reduce, the strength of the body\'s immune system. Some of these drugs are used to make the body less likely to reject a transplanted organ, such as a liver, heart, or kidney. These drugs are called antirejection drugs.\xa0Examples\xa0of persons with weakened immune systems include those with HIV/AIDS; cancer and transplant patients who are taking certain immunosuppressive drugs; and those with inherited diseases that affect the immune system (e.g., congenital agammaglobulinemia, congenital IgA deficiency).
