What is cohesive force in reference with transpiration?? |
|
Answer» Thanks Aditya In tall plants, it is nearly impossible to bring water to the apical area through upward conduction by root pressure alone (it takes a long time). In such cases, transpiration plays the key role. As water is lost from the plant through transpiration especially during summers, naturally changes occur in the plant such that a particular form of suction force is produced which literally SUCKS the water up the xylem so that it reaches the topmost region. This is known as COHESIVE FORCE. |
