What is intermediate? |
| Answer» A reaction\xa0intermediate\xa0or an\xa0intermediate\xa0is a molecular entity that is formed from the reactants (or preceding\xa0intermediates) and reacts further to give the directly observed products of a\xa0chemical\xa0reaction. Most\xa0chemical\xa0reactions are stepwise, that is they take more than one elementary step to complete.\xa0A\xa0catalyst\xa0is a species that is present at the beginning of a reaction and reappears at the end. It does not appear\xa0in the\xa0final equation. An\xa0intermediate\xa0is not present at the beginning. It forms during the reaction and disappears before the end. | |
