Not definition ....so kanchan Sorry if I am wrong...Actually I am confused with the answer if it reacts with acids, then it possesses a pH value less than 7. However, if it reacts with a base, then it shows a pH value greater than 7. Definition is right but ans is wrong what i demanded Amphoteric compounds is a molecule or ion that can react both as an acid as well as base. Why? Wrong ! An amphoteric substance is one that can react either as an acid or as a base. These acidic and basic properties are based upon the substance it is undergoing reaction with.
