What were the drawbacks of Newland\'s law of octaves? |

Answer» Thanks to both of you. 1. It was not applicable throughout the arrangement. It was applicable up to calcium only. The properties of the element listed after calcium showed no resemblance to the properties of the element above them................. 2.According to Newland, only 56 elements exist in nature, but after discovery there were more than 56 element............... 3.The position of cobalt and nickel in the group of the elements (F, CL) of different properties could not be explained............. 4. Placing of iron far away from cobalt and nickel, which have similar properties as iron, could also not be explained. Drawbacks of Newlands octave rules are (1).Newlands law was applicable to the classification of elements upto calcium only(2).Newland assumed that only 56 elements exist in nature and no more elements would be discovered in future(3).In order to fit elements into his tables,newland put even 2 elemnts together in one slot.Tanmay more! |
